Last week I showed the sideways spinal twist that you can do to your partner. This week I’ll show you the spinal twist lying face up on the floor.
Have the receiver lie on the floor facing up with one knee bent. Put your knee by the foot of the bent leg. Put one hand on the receiver’s bent knee and the other on the receiver’s hip bone. Take a deep breath together and as you exhale together, press the knee across the other leg. This is especially good for the lower back. As a bonus, you can press the IT band. Use your body weight to press.
For a deeper spinal twist, have the receiver cross the bent knee across the other leg. Put one hand on the receiver’s shoulder and the other on the receiver’s bent knee. Take a deep breath together and as you both exhale, press the knee and shoulder away from each other.
Giver, lunge deeper if necessary and keep you back straight, and use the entire body to press, not just with your arms. This will help protect your back.
Repeat on the other side.
