Smaller Face Massage (Massage Monday #515)

One of the good things that happened during the lockdown was that lot of the in-person classes were being offered online. I took an advantage of this situation and I took several courses that were offered online in Japan which otherwise I couldn’t have taken from the United States. One of them was self face massage. This week I will show you the face massage to make your face smaller.

My teacher and the creator of this method was Ms. Kotono Suzuki. When she used work as a rehab specialist working with the facial paralysis patients, she noticed that their face got smaller and their skin tone got improved as she was working with them. She then came up her own therapeutic method to do just that focusing on the bones of the skull and the bodily fluid especially the spinal fluid. She has like 16

different locations in Japan and I cannot wait to have it done by the pro the next time I go back to Japan but until then I will be doing this self face massage.

For this massage, you will not be gliding over the skin so there is no lubricant needed.

Step 1:

Close three fingers together.

Place them next to each other by the hairline in the center of your forehead.

Firmly hold down the skin and move up and down 10 times.

Come down half way on your forehead and move up and down 10 times.

Come down to the eyebrows and move up and down 10 times just above the eyebrows.

When you move up and down, do not glide over the skin but keep the point of contact and move the muscles under the skin until it cannot move and your fingers will come off. The same for the other direction. This is the reason why you do not want a lubricant because it will make it too slippery and you won’t be able to move muscles and myofascial tissues under the skin.

Line up your middle fingers to the pupils of your eyes and go up to the hairline.

Again, firmly hold down the skin and move up and down 10 times.

Come down half way and move up and down 10 times.

Come down to the eyebrows and move up and down 10 times just above the eyebrows.

Again, firmly hold down the skin and move up and down 10 times.

Come down half way and move up and down 10 times.

Come down to the eyebrows and move up and down 10 times just above the eyebrows.

Move your three fingers to the corners of your forehead and move up and down 10 times.

Come down half way and move up and down and 10 times.

Come down to the temples and move up and down 10 times.

Repeat these again.

In the center of your forehead. Half way down. And temples.

Step 2:

Make a loose fist.

Firmly place the second joint on your temple.

Move up and down 10 times. Come down and repeat.

In front of the ear, place the fist under the cheek bone and press upward as you move up and down.

When you reach your nose, place the pinky right next to the nose where there is a lymph node and move up and down.

Repeat this several times along the cheek bone. This is where the waste tends to stay and you may find it tight. This will help detox.

This will also help you look younger. One cause of looking old is sagging, stretched face. When you push up your cheek bone it lifts up your face. This helps to reduce the nasolabial line which is created by the difference in height between the cheek and chin.

Go back to the temple.

Repeat this on the other side.

Start from the temple and come down as you move up and down.

Really push up the cheek bone but if you find it too tight reduce the strength and do more with less strength focusing more on the vibration to the cheek bone.

Do several trips and go back to the temple.

Step 3:

Place the index and middle fingers at the outer edge of the eyebrow.

Lift up the eyebrow all the way and move side to side 10 times.

Lift up the center of the eyebrow and move side to side 10 times.

Lift up the inner edge of the eyebrow and move side to side 10 times.

Nobody is symmetrical but the tight eyebrow muscles can make your eyes very tired or cause your eyes to have different sizes or shapes.

With an index or middle finger, press the inner upper corner of the eye socket towards the top of the head. This will clear the sinus.

Repeat and do another round.

Outer edge. I’m saying 10 times but you can do 5 times or at least 3 times. Center. And inner edge. And press the corner of the eye socket towards the top of the head.

Do this on the other side.

Outer edge. Center. And inner edge. And press the corner of the eye socket towards the top of the head.

One more time.

Outer edge. Center. And inner edge. And press.

This is just a face portion but her treatment method works on 23 bones in the skull and face in 3 dimensions to improve the flow of bodily fluids for better detoxing.

With an index or middle finger, press the inner upper corner of the eye socket.

Repeat.

With index fingers, circle the nose bone just below the eyes.

Come down half way and circle.

And circle right next to the nose.

Step 4:

With two fingers, press the inner upper corner of the eye socket towards the top of the head.

However, this time press with little rotation as if you are digging the top of the nose bone out. The nose can sag from here so we’re pulling the nose bone outward.

Step 5:

Make a fist and place the pinky joint by the nose.

Press up the cheek muscles against the cheek bone 10 times.

Move to the mid-section and press up 10.

Move to the front of the ear and press up 10.

Repeat 3 times.

The mid section with the middle finger as the base of contact.

The front of the ear with the index finger as the base of contact.

Step 6:

Effleurage with your fingers from the nose to the temple.

Effleurage from the chin to the temple.

This helps to calm down the face after lots of movement.

Step 7:

With your thumb, press circle five points around the mouth.

Step 8:

From the chin, press circle your thumb on the jawbone towards the ear.

Step 9:

Make a loose fist. Put the index finger in front of your ear lobe.

Using the flat part of the fist, move the jaw muscles along the jaw line.

Again, you are not gliding over the skin. You are moving over the jaw muscles.

After loosening with the flat surface, loosen with your thumb.

You may find these bite muscles in this area tight. If you have any pain, reduce the strength and do more.

Come back down to the chin along the jaw line.

Step 10:

Put the finger joints behind the jaw and move side to side.

Move to the mid-section of the jawline and move side to side.

Move to the end of the jaw by the ear and move side to side 10 times.

Move your fist up around the ear to the back of the ear firmly.

Repeat Step 7 – 10 on the other side.

You may find the bite muscles in this area tight. If you have any pain, reduce the strength and do more.

Come back down to the chin along the jaw line.

Step 10:

Put the finger joints behind the jaw and move side to side.

Move your fist up around the ear to the back of the ear firmly.

Step 11:

Using four fingers, pinch a large area, shake and lightly snap by twisting your fingertips.

This is a myofascial release movement.

Do this on 6 or 7 locations focusing more on the jawline.

Repeat on the other side.

Make sure you grab a large area and not just pinching a small area.

Give it a good vibration before your snap your fingers.

Step 12:

Effleurage from the nose to the temple.

Effleurage from the chin to the temple.

Step 13:

Firmly go up the jawline and circle the joint in front of the ears at 6 counts per circle. Notice if there’s any difference in the tightness between the right and left.

Step 14:

Lastly, press the hollow area next to the outer edge of the eyebrows.

Circle your index and/or middle finger with a count of 6 per circle.

Here you are loosening the sphenoid bone that attaches to many other bones in the skull.

For the best result, do this twice a day. Once in the morning and once at night before you go to bed.

I will put the link to her website here although it’s all in Japanese. Maybe you can have it done too if you ever visit Japan.
