Ear Acupressure Points for Insomnia

As I promised this week I will share ear acupressure points for insomnia.

I will share four auricular points that will help you sleep better. You can work on one ear at a time or both ears at the same time.

The first point is Shin Mon in Japanese or Shen Men in Chinese. It means Spirit Gate. It’s located in the Y of the upper part of the ear. Pinch the ear with your thumb in the back and stimulate with your index fingertip. Hold for 10-15 seconds as you breathe deeply. This point is effective on Autonomic Nervous System and relaxes your body and mind.

Shin Mon (Shen Men) Spirit Gate

The second point is kidney. It is located in the groove under the first point on the border of inferior antihelix crus or lower part of Y. Press and hold as you breathe deeply for 10-15 seconds. This point also helps to detox and improve metabolism. If you have a long fingernail, use a Q-tip to press.

Kidney

The third point is heart. It’s in the middle of the ear cavity. Press and hold as you breathe deeply for 10-15 seconds. This point activates parasympathetic nervous system which turns on the relaxation state. If you have a long fingernail, use a Q-tip to press. I’ve shown more generic technique to do the same in the video before but this is more specific.

Heart

The fourth and last point is pillow. Of course, pillow is not your body part but this area is for parts around the head and this point helps to take away brain fatigue and fall asleep. When you follow the edge of the inner ear from the bottom, it goes up and goes sideways a little and goes up again. It’s located below the corner where it goes up again. Pinch and hold for 10-15 seconds as you breathe deeply.

Pillow

Use pressure that feels good or hurts good. No need to press hard and cause pain. You want to fall asleep after all.

If you aren’t sure about the location, make small circles instead and I bet you will be stimulating the target points.

Good night!
